How We Met
Robert and I were on the same mountain climbing (hiking) team, mid 2005, when we first met.
He asked me: “How fast did you run the 2 miles?”
Running was our pre-summit training/test we had to pass in order to make it on the trip to Hallet’s Peak.
Not being a runner, nor competitive, I said: “What does it matter if we made it?”
Robert: “Just so you know, I’m not carrying you up that mountain.”
I had not conceived that the trip up the mountain would be something both prophetic over my life, as well as something I would look back at and laugh about with Robert some nearly 20 years later.
I went back to camp that night, after having made first introductions with Robert as a team member; making sure to tell the other girls to steer clear of the tall guy.
While we made our ascent the following day, I could barely walk a straight line. My hiking partner grabbed my hand and pulled me forward while I focused on putting one foot in front of the other.
We had a check point mid-way up the mountain. I was examined by a nurse and told that I was suffering from altitude sickness. She asked me if I wanted to head back down. I distinctly remember looking at the summit of the mountain and thinking to myself, “when will I climb another mountain?” It was decided, I was going to finish strong. I was given some medication and continued my journey.
Much later, my husband confessed to me: “I was praying you off that mountain! You were slowing us down.”
But he said: “When I saw that you continued despite how much you were struggling, I was impressed. I shifted my prayers and began asking God to give you strength.”
God has continued to give us the strength and endurance to overcome many mountains in our lives.
Where We Are At Now
Robert works with a local grain company as a grain delivery driver. While he’s been driving semi professionally for little more than 5 years, he’s new in the agriculture industry. He really enjoys this newer venture…
Every time he gets near a tractor, he says: “I’m one step closer to being a farmer!!”
I am on my 10th year homeschooling our four children. Likewise, I work part-time with a homeschool accrediting association. I am blessed to be able to encourage and support local homeschoolers like myself.
Behind The Scenes
While I might be the primary voice of this blog, my husband and I are tight-knit team. He has played a significant role in supporting me moving forward with this vision. While he might be the subject of a number of our testimonies/stories, he also helps curate content .
